BDI’s investment in cutting-edge technology will allow the company to meet growing demand for gas chromatography (GC) and high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) analytical services for its clients and industry partners.
BDI’s Analytical Chemistry Lab has moved into new 800-sq. ft. facilities, added new staff and invested in new equipment. The addition of Flame Ionization Detector gas chromatography (GC-FID) and the development of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) protocols for the analysis of fatty acids will allow BDI to meet the developing needs of the oil seed industry. A new 100 carousel auto-loader for the analysis of insecticides and fungicides will help BDI’s analysts increase sample throughput, while maintaining the high level of accuracy clients demand.
“The expansion of our chromatography services to include HPLC testing allows us to use the industry standard approach to test a broader range of seed treatment chemicals, providing more options for our customers,” said laboratory manager Denise Thiede. Considered the best technology in the industry, HPLC testing yields the highest quality results for BDI’s customers. Thiede also says her department has “more than doubled” the number of its seed-testing professionals, and is now able to conduct fatty-acid profiling.
